Weingut Willi Brundlmayer Gruner Veltliner L+T 2021
While no longer qualifying for “geek wine” status in my mind due to its widely known deliciousness and food friendliness – it’s still a niche wine for many. Loved by Somms, Chefs and wine loving foodies galore, this grape, grown in the perfect terroirs of Austria’s Wachau, Kremstal and Kamptal regions is one of the finest white wines in the world.
It can range from light, dry and citrusy to nearly whitye Burgundy in weight and richness. This expression is picked just after the grapes for sparkling wine, and is definitely on the crisp, mineral side. The “L&T” stands for “leicht und trocken” – light and dry, and that it is!
From one of the masters of the genre, Willi Brundlemayer nails it with a Gruner loaded with beautiful citrus notes, lime, cool minerality, bright acidity and a fresh focused lively core of green apple tinged fruit. Looking for a Sauvignon Blanc alternative for the summer? This is your wine. Perfect with salads, mild fish, shellfish, sushi, Thai and Pacific rim influence cuisine and at all on its own on a warm spring/summer day!.
It is sourced from elevated, slightly cooler terraces, farmed organically, with light, stony soils composed of Loess. Fermented in 100% Stainless steel fermentation to preserve freshness and vitality, this is a beautiful example at a great price! In stock now – Cheers! Chris
