Description
The Abtsberg is without question the estate’s most renowned vineyard site, famous for producing wines of almost peerless longevity. Its bedrock is blue Devonian slate, forming a rounded summit that opens up from southeast to southwest. The estate’s finest parcels are located at the heart of that cone, which reaches gradients of up to 75%. While the full length of the 14-hectare Abstberg transitions seamlessly into the Herrenberg to the west, the soil tends to be shallower and more fossil-rich here. This heightened minerality is reflected in its wines as well.
