Réserve de la Comtesse Pauillac 2016

94 Vinous Media | Antonio Galloni

Rated 94 Points, Antonio Galloni Vinous Media – “Sensual, racy and inviting, the Réserve de la Comtesse is one of the very finest wines readers will find in its peer group. Sweet dark plum, rose petal, spice and chocolate notes build into the silky, beautifully resonant finish. The 2016 has so much to offer. Moreover, it is flat-out delicious. Don’t miss it!”

I have had this wine half a dozen times this fall and featured it in several Bordeaux zoom seminars for its classic, pure expression of it’s left bank terroir. A blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 4% Cabernet Franc grown in deep gravel with clay and limestone soil over sandstone, marl and limestone. Located in the “high rent district” next to Château Latour, close to the Gironde river, and just across the road from Pichon Baron as well, its pedigree couldn’t be better. If you want 2nd growth Pichon Lalande character at a fraction of the price, this is your wine! Drink now with a 30 minute decanting, or over the next 4-6 years at least. Cheers! Chris Cree MW, Cree Wine Company.

May-Eliane de Lencquesaing, the daughter of Edouard Miailhe became the new owner and general manager of Chateau Pichon Comtesse de Lalande in1978, making numerous investments and improvements at Pichon Lalande and firmly establishing it as one of the top “super seconds” in Bordeaux.
