THIS is the kind of wine discovery that truly gets us charged! Beautiful, crisp mineral yet with a solid core of fruit in its center, dry, lively and clean well into its focused finish. This was one of our most popular white wines all of last year before selling out in a snap.

The 94 point score from Jeb Dunnuck didn’t hurt when he described the wine as follows: “Based on 100% Chasselas brought up all in tank (there are a couple concrete eggs used), the 2019 Valais is a beautiful white that delivers richness, minerality, and a great sense of elegance. Caramelized citrus, lemon blossom, crushed rocks, and white flower notes dominate the bouquet, and it hits the palate with medium body, flawless balance, building richness, and a great finish. This is a gorgeous white readers should snatch up.”

We couldn’t agree more and the 2020 is a perfect encore performance. So this year we doubled down and brought in all we could get – even before the scores hit! By the time they do this will most likely be long gone.
This is like drinking in an Alpine spring, or running through a field of Alpine flowers, or skiing through powder on a blue-bird day. Why? Because this incredible crisp and refreshing wine comes from vineyards at an elevation of about 500 meters in the Swiss Alps – serious Alps, with vineyards along the fledgling headwaters of the mighty Rhône river.
It is sustainably farmed and made from Made from Fendant, a local variety also known as Chasselas. It’s focused, mineral and bright, with a bigger core of green apple tinged fruit than one would expect given its modest 12 point something alcohol level, making it gentle on a warm summer day. In winter I’d go fondue or raclette, or any number of Alpine cheeses plus it’s perfect with salads, mild seafood – sushi, crudo or ceviche style. In spring and summer I’d pair it with summer veggies like Jersey corn, freshly sliced tomatoes from the garden or farm stand, sliced and topped with mozzarella or Burrata, shreds of basil and drizzled with good olive oil. Or simply enjoy it all on its own. Crack open a chilled bottle and take a little Alpine stroll without ever leaving your deck!
