Paul-Henry Pellé, the fourth-generation to run this fantastic Domaine, organically farms 40 hectares of vines mainly in the appellation of Menetou-Salon. But he also has four hectares in Sancerre planted in superb ‘Caillotes’ soils composed of pebbly clay and limestone. The fermentations are mainly stainless steel, with about 15% in a combination of foudres and 400-liter barrels in a beautiful 13th century underground cellar. Importer Doug Polaner notes “Like the top wines from Chavignol, Pellé wines drink well on release, but also have the power and precision to age beautifully for 10-15 years, often longer in top vintages.”
