Michel Huard-Guillouet Hors d'Age Calvados
Jean Francois Guillouet has combined three vintages (1990, 1992, 2005) to create this incredible Hors d’ Age. Deep green apple, vanilla, honey and smoked almond are all present. This well-aged Calvados has a round, oily mouthfeel and a long finish. With an average age of 20 years, Huard Calvados is an incredible value within the landscape of aged spirits!
Hors d’ Age means “Beyond Age” and is the age category that describes the highest quality Brandies in France including Armagnac , Cognac & Calvados in terms of age. It is used for when there is an average age of 30 years and above. Hors d’Age blends can be 30, 40, 50, even up to a 100 years old!
The Huard family has lived on their orchard property in the Suisse-Normand for more than five generations. Nearly 1,800 trees grace the 15 hectare (37 acre) property. The soil is loamy, composed of an ideal combination of silt and clay. About 30 varieties of apples are grown on the property. The cider from these apples is fermented and aged for about eight months, then distilled in a traveling column still. The spirits then go into large, elongated barrels, where they age until maturity.
