Julien Sunier Régnié 2019

94 Points James Suckling I 92 Vinous media I 92 John Gilman

Dark, bright-rimmed magenta. Bright and energetic on the perfumed nose, displaying intense red and blue fruit, exotic spice and lavender qualities and a hint of smoky minerality. Sappy and precise on the palate, offering penetrating black raspberry, bitter cherry and floral pastille flavors; hints of licorice and succulent herbs build with air. Fine-grained tannins add grip a very long, penetrating finish that echoes the mineral note and leaves a hint of smoky bacon behind. — Josh Raynolds

The 2019 Regnie from Julien Sunier is a beautifully sappy and expressive example of the vintage. The bouquet hops from the glass in a vibrant blend of cherries, a touch of raspberry, sweet cranberry, bonfire, very pretty spice tones and a lovely base of soil. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, focused and transparent, with a lovely core of red fruit, fine balance and grip, just a wisp of tannin and a long, tangy and complex finish. This is not a particularly concentrated example, but is has plenty of intensity of flavor and complexity and is really a refined bottle of Regnie. 2020-2030+. View from the Cellar – John Gilman
