Johan Vineyards Pinot Noir Estate Willamette Valley 2018
$29.99 per bottle – $26.98 on six or more
If you are still looking for that perfect pairing for your Thanksgiving Turkey, or just to stock up on a fantastic and affordable Pinot Noir from Oregon look no further! This beautiful wine from Norwegian born Dag Johan Sundby is loaded with classy Pinot charm and elegance – organically and biodynamically farmed, it exudes notes of red cherry, cranberry, dark cherry and earth, all wrapped in supple tannins and a pure core of underlying dark fruit.
Grapes are from his 175 acre Estate which lies adjacent to the Van Duzer corridor, a cooling gap in the coastal range that makes this a prime location for making balanced, almost Burgundian style wines. Soils are Helvetia, Steiwer, and Santiam silts, created millions of years ago from marine sedimentary rock. Farming is Certified Biodynamic, no shortcuts here, yet they do not exude the funkiness that many wines headed in the natural direction tend to display. These guys get it right, making the wines in a classic style with small lot fermentations, native yeasts and malolactic fermentation, a big portion (57%) of whole cluster that adds nice structure and tension to the wine, and zero additives (enzymes, tannins, acid, sugar, water, copper etc). Believe me, not many wineries can make that claim! Aging for 10 months in 100% french oak barrels (28% new) and nuance and just a hint of well integrated oak without overpowering at all. Classy and drinking way above its $30 price tag this is in stock now and open to taste today and all weekend!
