While all of their wines offer exceptional value, the flagship Viacosta Classico Riserva is the most impressive. It is made from 100% Sangiovese from a beautiful, south-facing amphitheater of 35-45 year old vines. It is traditional in style, with fermentations in cement and aging in large, neutral botte (wooden casks) and used barriques. It is only made in top vintages like 2016, the highest rated vintage EVER for Chianti Classico by the Wine Advocate. And even better yet, the Rodanos have kept their prices down making their wines incredible values!

Right from the get-go this wine shows depth, richness and Brunello-like dark earth tinged fruit on its seductive nose. On the palate its Brunello-like character is amplified with its mouth filling, delicious, deep fruit, ample tannins, and long, warm lingering finish. This somewhat quiet, under the radar winery has roots going back to the 16th century, and it has been in the same family since then. But it was in 1967 when Vittorio Pozzesi took the first steps to building the superb quality and reputation by bottling their own wines instead of selling to the coop or negociants.

The next steps included a shift to certified organic farming and bringing winemaker Guilio Gambelli on board. One of the most legendary winemakers in Chianti, he counted such legendary producers as Montevertine and Gianfranco Soldera among his prestigious clients. Sadly he passed in 2012, but the family took what they had learned from this master and never missed a step.

93 Points, Wine Enthusiast – Enrico Pozzesi sources this sangiovese from Viacosta, a south-facing amphitheater-shaped vineyard in Castellina in Chianti. The wine rested for three years in large oak casks, developing notes of tobacco, cured meat and black pepper that layer over its dark cherry and black currant fruit. With its powerful tannins, this will appeal to Brunello lovers.
