Leave it To Ernie (Hemingway that is)

"As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy and to make plans."

One of my favorite food and wine literary passages of all time is Hemingway’s description of downing oysters and a crisp white wine in a Parisienne bistro. An epic foodie and polished drinker, Ernie gets it spot on. How can you read this and not immediately head to Metropolitan Seafood for a few dozen Huitres?

The crew at Metro Seafood can take care of your seafood hankering, and we have the PERFECT wine to match, and spring and summer are the perfect time for the crisp, focused mineral tinged wines from the region of Sancerre in the eastern Loire Valley.

Here in the limestone soils and moderate to cool continental climate, Sauvignon Blanc finds another gear – and this new small winery we discovered last week checks all of the boxes. Great price, lovely cool citrus tinged fruit on the nose, bright acidity, dry and clean, hints of lime and delicate orange blossom on the palate, and perhaps a little green apple. Fresh and lively from start to finish – a perfect white with all kinds of shellfish, seafood, sushi, salads and more. There’s a huge shortage of white wine from France, especially Sancerre, and price hikes to match due to the freeze and frost damage in 2021. We bought in big on this one – don’t be afraid to stock up on this gem!

In stock and open to taste all weekend. Grab a seat in the tasting room or the patio, have a bite to eat, and try before you buy! Cheers, Chris
