Domaine Delaye Saint Veran Les Pierres Grises 2020
For those of you (like me!) who have counted on the stellar Bourgogne Blanc from Joseph Drouhin for the last five plus years I have bad news. Due to massive loss of fruit due to severe frost and weather damage our “go to” white Burgundy will not be available for the foreseeable future.
But cheer up! Anticipating the shortage we have tasted far and wide and found a truly worthy replacement – Domaine Delaye Saint Veran Les Pierres Grises 2020! I have worked with the wines from this excellent producer for decades, always finding them a very reliable source of deliciously affordable classic white Burgundy from the Macon. It absolutely over-delivers for the price! It has a beautiful aromatic nose and a tight core of delicious chardonnay fruit, great minerality and acidity, and a long, creamy, lingering finish. Crowd pleasing, food friendly and affordable, this is one to load up on by the case for all of your holiday celebrations.
It is made from 100% Chardonnay grapes grown in vineyards around the town of Davaye in the heart of the Macon region. Vines are 25+ years old at 200 meters of altitude. It is fermented and aged in 80% tank, 20% barrel, adding a lovely creamy hint in the center without being too oaky.
