Clos St Antonin Cotes du Rhone 2019
$14.99 On Sale – $13.99 On Six or More
Rated 90 Points Wine Advocate – "Mainly Grenache, with the balance a blend of Mourvèdre and Syrah, the 2019 Cotes du Rhone offers up notions of ripe cherries, garrigue and even a few modest hints of pine sap. Medium to full-bodied, it’s concentrated and ripe yet silky and reasonably elegant. Drink it over the next several years."
Owned by the Sabon family (owners of the esteemed Domaine de la Janasse in Châteauneuf du Pape), it is a blend of at least 80% Grenache, which provides lovely cherry fruit tones, supported by Mourvedre and Syrah for depth, complexity, darker fruit elements, and structure.
Bright ruby purple, with beautiful aromas of kirschy cherry fruit, earth, and spices. It’s juicy and bright on the palate, with lovely crushed red and dark fruits, moderate tannins, and a long, lovely finish. All that for around $15. Stock up! Open to taste this weekend!
Vines are 50-80 years old, planted in clay, limestone, and gravel. Originally this cuvée was aged in concrete and foudre, but since 2018 Isabelle Sabon has fermented and aged the Grenache without SO2 in neutral 600L French oak demi-muids to better capture and preserve the essence of the fruit.
