95 Points (Best Buy) – Wine & Spirits Magazine – “Robert Eden pulls this wine from his biodynamically tended vineyards in the rocky, windy highlands of La Liviniere. A blend of syrah with grenache and carignan, it’s a wine you can sink your teeth into, and it responds with juicy black fruit, spicy and fresh, and notes of mint, licorice and rose. Vinified in cement eggs and vats, it retains a sense of cool, stony clarity that brings light to its darkness and beams them into long-lasting fragrance. It’s at once firmly structured and ethereal, a balance that makes it addictive as well as potentially long lived” Reviewed by Tara Q. Thomas

If sustainability, organic and biodynamic mean anything to you, you can’t do much better than this super-sustainable winery in the Languedoc region of France. They have been certified organic since 2002, and biodynamic by Demeter since 2008. The winery is made of and they employ all kinds of other energy-saving measures. They walk the walk and cut no corners, and in 2016 Maris was certified BCorp, becoming the first winery in Europe to achieve this certification – currently one of only 26 in the world.

Sure you might say, all that is great – but how’s the wine? Simply superb is the short answer! I have been a huge fan for years, especially the bargain priced La Touge, a delicious blend of Syrah (60%), Grenache (35) & Carignan (5%) that has beautiful dark fruit, blackberry, black currant, spices, dried wild herbs, moderate tannins, supple long finish, and layers of flavor well beyond its modest price tag. This a a perfect summer BBQ red with anything from meaty grilled fish, BBQ chicken, burgers, plus steak and chops of all kinds!
