90-92 Wine Advocate
We tasted this amazing Merlot based right banker a couple of weeks ago and were blown away by its forward, upfront, seductive style – a deliciously affordable Bordeaux to drink now with a decanting and over the next 4-5 years at least. The Wine Advocate pretty much nails it with their review – simply a great bang for the buck Bordeaux that won’t break the bank. Wine arrives next week. Cheers! Chris
Rated (90-92), The Wine Advocate’s Lisa Perrotti Brown – “The 2019 La Pensee displays a deep garnet-purple color and notions of blackberry pie, baking spices, warm plums and boysenberries with touches of woodsmoke, cracked black pepper and wilted roses. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a racy line lifting the densely packed black fruits, supported by ripe, rounded tannins, finishing savory.”
While the focus on Bordeaux tends to center around the expensive, ageworthy and collectible classified growths, the majority of the wine in Bordeaux is made by smaller properties located in the lesser known Satellite regions of the right bank and the Medoc in the left. There are literally thousands of them, and the winemaking and quality has never been better. Today’s offer comes from the Appellation of Lalande de Pomerol, located just to the north of Pomerol proper, a region with an Ideal mixture of clay, gravel, and sand where Merlot is king and Cabernet Franc plays a supporting role. As a result the wines are push, round and accessible relative early on in their lifespan, with qualities similar to those of the more expensive brethren to the south.
Beautifully aromatic with lovely red fruits, kirsh, hints of earth, sandalwood and spice box ll come together to make this an eminently enjoyable wine. Stock up now and get your Bordeaux fix at a great price!
