Chad Sonoma Mountain Reserve 2019
$17.97 on Six or More!
Chad Alexander always manages to find outrageous deals from some of the top vineyards in Napa and Sonoma, but this selection from atop Sonoma Mountain might be his biggest score yet. Of course, the deal with Chad is that in exchange for cash on the barrel – the top wineries will hand over a barrel or two to Chad at quarters on the dollar, but under an ironclad NDA.
So each call with Chad is a bit like a game of charades. During our last call, it was pretty easy to figure out where a wine of this pedigree had to be coming from. Of course, I can’t say that here, but here’s what I can say.
Chad said the release price was going to be close to $45 but wines from these vineyards can go for much, much more. The vineyard is one of the oldest and often considered top old-vine vineyard for Cab and Merlot in the Mayacamas Mountains.
The wine itself is superb. Deep, dark ruby red in color with fresh blackberries with a touch of dark chocolate on the nose. The mouth has plenty of mouthwatering acid cut framing flavors of raspberry, plum, and cassis – with a just kiss of oak.
It’s drinking great now – just give it 30 minutes of air – but will continue to get better and better over the next 4 to 6 years. Though it’s worth every penny of its 45 dollar price tag, it’s just $18.97 per bottle for as long as these 10 cases last.
