Bailly-Reverdy Sancerre Rose 2020

There is something about Sancerre Rose that I find totally compelling. Maybe its special character is derived from the cool, semi continental climate, or perhaps the flinty limestone marl soils. Whatever the reason, most likely a combination of both, plus the elegant, feminine, and complex nature of Pinot Noir itself, Sancerre rose from a top producer is simply sublime.

In any case this small family Domaine produces some of my favorite Sancerres, rose and white, every year. Highly allocated and selling out almost before it arrives every year, we are glad to have secured about a dozen cases.

Pale salmon hue, lovely bouquet of delicate cherry, a hint of citrus, with crisp mineral driven fruit, and a slight savory note that makes this a terrific food companion as well as all on its own. One more in the hit parade of top notch producers we have been able to stock this year, this is a classic that is not to be missed! Cheers! Chris Cree MW, Cree Wine Co.

Domaine Bailly-Reverdy produces classic, letter-perfect Sancerre. The domaine was created in 1988 but the vineyards have been in the family since the turn of the century. The current generation, led by Franck Bailly, and most recently his nephew Aurelien, has continued the family’s tradition and improved upon it with remarkable consistency and quality.

The domain works 22 hectares of vines that are all planted in the appellation of Sancerre. Five hectares are in the celebrated village of Chavignol with plots on the best hillsides of Sancerre – Les Monts Damnés, Les Comtesses, and Les Bouffants. (Grand Cru Selections)
